Class Description: A Disease Overview of Cancer One main question will be, “What are some of the causes of Cancer in America” (possible answers could be, genetic mutations, environmental and lifestyle). The second way to display a deeper understanding of this topic would be the staging of cancer per the oncologist. Introduction to Principal Cancer Treatments will be followed by Clinical Considerations: Massage Therapy Adjustments to Disease and Treatment side effects. General Massage Therapy Adjustments will be discussed. Our Last day of class, when it is the time for hands on. The students will be paired with a client of the instructions that is living with cancer. Then the student will have to demonstrate the ability to have an interview, setting a safe plan for the session, understanding any side effects from treatment and possible positional adjustments. If it is unsafe for clients living with cancer to attend, the hands-on portion will be a peer to peer setting with “case study” role playing for each session to display interview, setting a plan for the session and possible positional adjustments needed. Administrative Considerations The students will learn about better and more effective intake and interview approaches. On our last day each student will make their own intake form for this special population.
