Regional Education Opportunities

The Texas Chapter of AMTA is dedicated to bringing learning opportunities to all regions throughout the state. Through collaborative efforts between Chapter leadership and Regional Coordinators there are multiple chances for members, and non-members, to grow their skills in the profession.

Discover a simple, non-invasive, and exciting way to reduce minor pains and many chronic illnesses. Students learn Chinese medical procedures dating back 3,000 years, and are still practiced today. This class addresses how to increase healing within the body through acupressure, and a Chinese massage procedure (Tuina). Sinusitis, nausea, headaches, neck pain, and depression are only a few conditions that can be helped through the use of Acupressure. Join us in learning a fun and exciting way to reduce pain and become healthier.

A Weekend with James Waslaski
Austin and Heart of Texas Regions Combined Class
August 16 – 18
Georgetown, TX

Using state of the art anatomy and nerve graphics will allow manual therapists to look inside the human body. Starting with the brain and spinal cord, therapists will use positional release, muscle energy techniques, and soft tissue balancing protocols to address OA & C1-C-2 fixations, cervical kyphosis, spinal stenosis patterns, stuck facet joints, and treat sprains and strains throughout the upper body, sacral torsion patterns, iliosacral upslips, joint capsular patterns, femoral nerve compression and abnormal muscle firing patterns. Based on myofascial pain studies presented at harvard Medical School participants will learn new technique that will forever change the way they approach myofascial, trigger point, and tendon pain. These innovating structurally-oriented routines offer pain-free multi-modality methods for achieving immediate and permanent results for Shoulder, SI joint, and Sciatica pain and injuries.

A Cancer’s Journey: Fundamental Oncology Massage Class – with Amy Scottino
Southeast & Northwest Houston Regions Combined Class

A Disease Overview of Cancer One main question will be, “What are some of the causes of Cancer in America” (possible answers could be, genetic mutations, environmental and lifestyle). The second way to display a deeper understanding of this topic would be the staging of cancer per the oncologist. Introduction to Principal Cancer Treatments will be followed by Clinical Considerations: Massage Therapy Adjustments to Disease and Treatment side effects. General Massage Therapy Adjustments will be discussed.

Building Community Through Conversation: An Interactive Q&A Panel for Licensed Massage Therapists and Students

Join the Dallas AMTA region and fellow therapists for an engaging and interactive Question and Answer Panel Gathering, tailored for licensed massage therapists and massage students alike! This is an excellent opportunity to bring your questions, thoughts, and ideas to the table, fostering a rich and healthy conversation about the field we are all passionate about.

The Heart of Texas and Austin regions of the Texas Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association have joined together to invite you to register for a three-day 24 hour CE weekend with James Waslaski August 16-18, 2024, and explore various Myofascial techniques to relieve nerve compressions and muscle imbalances

We invite veteran massage therapists to work with world renowned James Waslaski to learn powerful techniques to successfully relieve clients pain and movement restriction.

James will be offering the following topics over the 3 days:

  • Manual Therapy to Eliminate Multiple Nerve Compressions of the Upper  Body
  • Manual Therapy to Eliminate Multiple Nerve Compressions of the Lower Body
  • Integrated Manual Therapy and Orthopedic massage for shoulder, low back, hip, and sciatica conditions

About the instructor: I completed my bachelor’s degree in Music education but since then I have switched my studies to Traditional Chinese Medicine in the area of Physical & Manual Medicine. I’ve studied at the Univ. of Trad. Chinese Med. in Shanghai, China, the Nat. Olympic Training Center in Beijing, China, while working in hospitals and clinics in both Shanghai & Beijing. I have been in private practice since 1973 and have worked in hospitals and clinics in the US. I have been a contributing author in a book on Shiatsu, and a book entitled: Modalities for Massage and Bodywork. I am currently on several State, local, and National Boards and committees in the area of massage therapy and Asian Bodywork, while teaching classes in Tuina in the US & Canada.

The students will be paired with a client of the instructions that is living with cancer. Then the student will have to demonstrate the ability to have an interview, setting a safe plan for the session, understanding any side effects from treatment and possible positional adjustments.If it is unsafe for clients living with cancer to attend, the hands-on portion will be a peer to peer setting with “case study” role playing for each session to display interview, setting a plan for the session and possible positional adjustments needed. Administrative Considerations The students will learn about better and more effective intake and interview approaches. On our last day each student will make their own intake form for this special population.

About the Instructor:

Amy Scottino

Amy graduated from Sterling Health Center in 2001 and has been practicing massage in many different capacities ever since. Since starting her own practice in 2016, this is where she has been able to fully express her passion for Manual Lymphatic Drainage/ Oncology Massage, caring for women’s health, and pass her education on to help the health of the clients.

Over the years, Amy has been trained in Prenatal/Postpartum/Labor Preparation Massage,  Postpartum pelvic health, Infant/Toddler/ Adolescent Massage, Myofascial Release, Geriatric Massage, Aromatherapy, Shiatsu, Oncology Massage, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Final Touch Massage (Hospice ) , and received her Massage Therapy Instructor License and Continuing Education Provider License.  And most recently starting the journey of becoming certified in Zero Balancing.  Out of everything she does, her true joy is helping others with all the knowledge she has obtained.

Amy Scottino is a member of the Society for Oncology Massage, Oncology Massage Alliance, A Recognized American Pregnancy Association Massage Therapist,  American Massage Therapy Association.  Amy also holds a license for Massage Therapy Instructor, Continuing Education Provider, and is a recognized education provider of NCBTMB.  Her co-owned education company is Emerald Bodywork Education.
