Carolyn Serrano

Carolyn Serrano

When I graduated from North Texas School of Swedish Massage in 2009, the first thing I did was break out the phone book and send a personal letter introducing myself to every massage therapist listed in my town. I knew that as a new LMT I needed support and community with other professionals. The people I met through this effort were essential to my success as a massage therapist. I learned how to network, how to apply my new skills with clients, and improved my techniques by trading sessions with seasoned practitioners. Massage therapists have a unique opportunity to interact with people on a heart-to-heart level, hold space for them, and remind them what peace feels like. I truly believe that you have to take care of yourself in order to take care of others and AMTA embodies that goal. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve as a volunteer with AMTA and be part of a community that supports massage therapists to do the work that the world needs.
